Cause:

Structure built on deck or concrete patio with no foundation frost wall.

REPAIR

Excavate outside the effected area to 42 inches below grade. Shore and raise to a compromise level. Install reinforcing steel (rebar), form and pour a concrete frost foundation.

The repair is engineered and inspected by the local building department. It becomes more cost effective to install a frost foundation under the existing structure than to demolish and rebuild.
